Producer information

The monks, just like the apostles, were entrusted as messengers of faith. "Ora et labora" - the monks had to pray and work in the monasteries. This work also included craftsmanship, so some monks became masters of brewing in every monastery. In the monasteries of the time, beer was considered a staple food, especially during the fasting period, since the consumption of "liquid bread" was not considered a breaking of the fast. Thanks to their literacy, the brewing monks continuously developed and refined the brewing process and they laid the foundations for brewing. One of their most important innovations was the addition of hops. On the one hand, this flavored the beer, and with the addition of hops, the beer got the slightly bitter taste that is still known today. On the other hand, the hops made the beer more durable.

The church therefore played a major role in creating the tradition of brewing, which is also reflected in the name of the Apostel brand. The first Apostelbräu beer was brewed in Worms in 1713. Later, the brand came into the hands of the Eichbaum brewery and Apostel Weissbier continues the tradition laid down in the monasteries to this day.
