Erythritol is a natural sugar alcohol. Its sweetening power is 60-80% of that of ordinary sugar. Its taste is cool and sweet. It does not lose its sweet taste up to 160 °C, and has no aftertaste.
Most of it is quickly absorbed in the small intestine, so it does not have a bloating and laxative effect like other sugar alcohols. More than 90% of the absorbed amount leaves the body unchanged, so its energy content is very low.
