Lemongrass 50g

Lemongrass, also known as Indian lemon grass, is an aromatic herb that is a popular ingredient in Southeast Asian cuisine.

Its fresh, citrusy flavor and aroma make it ideal for soups, curries, sauces, and teas.

It also has health benefits due to its high antioxidant content: it aids digestion, reduces inflammation, and may help lower cholesterol.

Lemongrass is used fresh, dried, or ground. Before cooking, remove the tough outer layers and finely slice or crush the inner stalk to release its flavor. The leaves of this robust grass, which can grow up to 1 meter tall, have a pleasant lemony scent and taste.

Their color is light green or yellowish white, their surface is dry, with fine veins characteristic of herbs. Fresh stalks are best stored in a sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator, where they will keep for a relatively long time, but they can become moldy if exposed to moisture. They can also be easily frozen. Lemongrass is a characteristic spice of Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian cuisine. It goes well with poultry, fish, and seafood, and is often combined with garlic, shallots, coriander, or chili peppers. It gives a piquant flavor to curry sauces and various chutneys. Delicious teas can also be made with lemongrass. Fresh stalks are used whole or chopped, first lightly crushed to release the flavor and aroma. Only the lower 10–15 cm is used, the upper fibrous part is cut off. It has a beneficial effect on digestion and the nervous system, and also helps against colds.

The plant is widespread in Southeast Asia, especially in India, but is also grown in Australia, Africa, South America, and parts of the USA.

Lemongrass is often used in the production of perfumes, colognes, soaps, and massage oils, as well as in incense sticks, which are used to repel mosquitoes in the tropics.
