Titbit honeydew melon, loose

General characteristics:

• Origin: It originates from West Africa and the Middle East, but it was also cultivated in ancient Egypt.
• Appearance: Spherical or oval shape, smooth, yellowish-green rind, light green or orange flesh.
• Flavour: Sweet, slightly spicy flavour, high water content (90%).

Nutritional value and health benefits:

• Vitamins: Outstanding vitamin C content (30% of the daily requirement from 1 cup of melon), source of vitamin A.
• Minerals: Potassium (heart and blood pressure regulation), magnesium, iron.
• Antioxidants: Beta-carotene and lutein, which protect the eyes and skin.
• Fibre content: Aids digestion and promotes intestinal health.

Use in the kitchen:

• Fresh: Fruit salads, smoothies, or marinated and combined with smoked meats.
• Desserts: Sorbet, ice cream, or honeydew cream soup with lemon juice and mint.
• Innovative recipes: Grilled melon wrapped in bacon, or pickled as a pickle.

Its rind is bright lemon yellow, its flesh is usually white or pale yellow, juicy, its flavour resembles that of cantaloupe, but it is much milder and sweeter.
