Producer information

Irish nobleman Richard Hennessy founded the Hennessy cognac house in 1765 and began trading in cognac commercially. After his death, his son James took over the family business and built it into a successful cognac house. 
He was the one who actually created the Hennessy brand and gave the company the name Jas (James) Hennessy & Co, which it still bears today. Under his leadership, the company expanded rapidly, and this continued under the following generations. In 1971, Kilian Hennessy merged the company with the champagne producer Moët et Chandon to form the Moët Hennessy group. In 1987, this group merged with the fashion house Louis Vuitton to create the world's largest luxury goods company: Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, or LVMH for short.
