Europe's favourite gluten-free brand was born in a small chemist's shop in the South Tyrolean town of Merano. The Schär brand itself was founded in 1922 and initially produced gluten-free baby food developed by Innsbruck's chief physician Dr. Anton Schär. At the age of 23, his son Ulrich Ladurner took over the chemist's shop from his parents and, being very interested in gluten-free products, added them to the shop's range. This was something of a revolution for people with coeliac disease: as the range of gluten-free products grew, so too did their quality of life. To this day, Schär is able to provide gluten-free versions of the most popular foods.
