BIO Star ruby red grapefruit

Grapefruit contains vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, zinc, copper, iron, potassium and dietary fiber. More precisely, the Star Ruby grapefruit is an excellent source of vitamin A, and it has the highest lycopene level of all grapefruits.

Fruit characteristics

Its medium-sized fruit is spherical, with a fairly thin, smooth skin. Its flesh is red and bitter, with few or no seeds. The Star Ruby grapefruit is spherical and slightly flattened, with a diameter of 15 centimeters and a height of 12 centimeters. Their skin is yellowish-orange, with a pinkish hue indicating ripeness. The peel is medium-thick and bittersweet, full of volatile oils that intensify when the peel is punctured or peeled. The flesh of the Star Ruby grapefruit is the darkest of the red grapefruit varieties. In fact, the redder the flesh, the sweeter it tastes. The ruby-red pulp is juicy, with a sweet-tart flavor, and contains few or no seeds.

Interesting facts

According to the Chinese, grapefruit is a symbol of fertility and prosperity, but the Greeks and the peoples of the Near East thought similarly. The youngest member of the citrus family was first identified as a "forbidden fruit" in 1750, and botany has distinguished it from pomelo since 1948, classifying it as an accidental hybrid of pomelo and orange.

It became known as grapefruit because its fruit hangs down from the tree, which can be up to 15 meters high, like a bunch of grapes. It is one of the largest citrus fruits, with a diameter of 10-18 centimeters. Like other citrus fruits, grapefruit is very high in vitamin C, which is why it is often used to treat flu and colds.

Usage

The Star Ruby grapefruit is similar in taste, flavor and appearance to the common pink grapefruit. Most often consumed fresh, grapefruit can also be used in savory salads, grilled dishes, cocktails, vinaigrettes or frozen desserts.

Sauces, syrups and jams can also be made from the flesh and juice.

Pair the Star Ruby grapefruit with other citrus fruits, tropical fruits, avocado, yogurt, root vegetables, salad greens, raw and cooked fish and fresh herbs.
