Venezuelans know how to make good rum. In addition to the excellent Santa Teresa and Diplomatico, Pampero also comes from this country. Pampero is a brand that has existed since 1938 and is now owned by Diageo. Its main markets are Italy, Spain and Venezuela itself. The name roughly translates to Pampa, although the Venezuelan plain similar to the Argentine one is called Los Llanos. The locals also refer to it as the seated horse or the prancing horse, referring to the brand's characteristic red logo. Pampero rum is made in the city of Ocumare de Tuy, which lies in the central plains of the country, in the Tuy River valley. Aniversario is a very tasty, balanced rum, full-bodied, fruity, and has a very smooth, velvety finish. It is a molasses-based rum, distilled in a continuous still, then aged in used whiskey and sherry barrels for a maximum of 4 years. It was first created in 1963, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Pampero brand.
