Cafe Frei was founded by two friends: Tamás Frei, a novelist, former world traveler on television, who has visited more than 150 countries in recent decades and loves coffee and the world associated with it; and Tamás Langár, an economist and food industry entrepreneur, who helps run the network from a business perspective with more than 30 years of experience.

The first CAFE FREI coffee shop opened in Hungary in April 2007, and their coffee shop franchise network has been growing ever since. Today, they have grown into the country's largest coffee shop chain. Thanks to their unique franchise system, 2013 brought them an international breakthrough when they opened their first Central European coffee shops. Since then, they have been operating coffee shops from France to Dubai. Among other things, they are also in countries considered exotic, such as Saudi Arabia.
