Manioc or tapioca is a plant native to Central and South America, but today it is also cultivated in large areas in Asia and Africa. Primarily the plant's tuber is used, which is the world's third most important source of carbohydrates after rice and corn.

The tapioca tuber is not suitable for human consumption raw, but after processing, the products available in stores do not cause any problems. It is mostly used in pearl and powder form, but animal feed is also made from it, and due to its high starch content, it can also be a raw material for the textile and paper industries. Interestingly, glue and alcohol are also made from it, and it also plays a prominent role in biofuel production.

Product information

To make tapioca pudding, first soak the tapioca pearls in water or vegetable milk for 10-15 minutes, then season to taste and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 10-15 minutes). Spoon into small bowls and let cool.
