In Rome, hazelnut is one of the most popular flavours, whether in coffee or ice cream. According to tradition, Viterbo hazelnuts were highly valued in ancient Rome, and were mainly used to make ice cream at that time. Nowadays, however, coffees, especially long lattes like this one, often contain this delicious ingredient.

Cafe Frei was founded by two friends: novelist Tamás Frei, a former TV globetrotter who has visited more than 150 countries in recent decades and is passionate about coffee and the world associated with it; and Tamás Langár, an economist and food industry entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience who helps run the network's business side.

The first CAFE FREI coffee shop opened in Hungary in April 2007, and their coffee shop franchise network has been growing ever since. They have now become the country's largest coffee shop chain. Thanks to their unique franchise system, 2013 was a year of international breakthrough for them, when they opened their first coffee shops in Central Europe. Since then, they have been operating coffee shops from France to Dubai. They even have coffee shops in countries as exotic as Saudi Arabia.
