Ritter Sport Alpine Milk Chocolate
High-quality chocolate with a distinctive caramel and honey aroma that develops during the conching (heating and continuous stirring) of Alpine milk and cocoa.
Producer information
The history of Ritter Sport began in 1912 when Clara Göttle and Alfred Eugen Ritter founded the Swabian family confectionery business in Bad Cannstatt, Germany.
The first joint chocolate brand was Al rika, which was so popular that a new factory was needed by 1930.
Clara Göttle and Alfred Eugen Ritter opened their next plant 20 km further down, in the town of Waldenbuch.
The real milestone came in 1932 when, at Clara's suggestion, the 4 x 4 small square, uniquely shaped bar of chocolate was placed on the summer shelf and given the name Ritter Sport.
Their success has been unbroken ever since, and the company has now ventured into international waters, still owned by the family.
Today, the third generation, Alfred T. Ritter and his sister, Marli Hoppe Ritter, export the colourful little squares to more than 80 countries.
